Beaches Turks and Caicos (BTC) reaffirmed its commitment to youth empowerment and industry development by participating in the annual Career Day hosted by Wesley Methodist High School.
A dynamic team from the award-winning resort engaged third-form students in an interactive session designed to share the vast opportunities within the thriving hospitality and tourism sector.
The session explored various areas including the culinary arts, résumé writing and BTC’s highly sought-after summer internship programme. Students received first-hand insights from professionals who have made their mark in the industry.

Sous Chef Garrie Brown opened the presentation with his inspiring career journey in the culinary field and offered students practical advice. He emphasised the value of excellence in guest service—especially when managing dietary needs and allergies. “Your attention to detail can define someone’s entire vacation experience,” Brown noted.
Public Relations Manager Orville Morgan provided an overview of the diverse career paths available at Beaches Turks and Caicos. He spotlighted the resort’s annual internship programme, which serves over 100 high school and college students.
“If you’re passionate about kickstarting a career in tourism, this is a great way to begin,” Morgan encouraged.
The session ended with a Q&A hosted by Beaches PR Coordinator Emmathanael Thervenin. Students were rewarded for their participation with prizes including scientific calculators and care packages of school supplies. Refreshments were also provided by the resort.

Carla Thomas-Ferguson, a modern languages teacher and one of the event organizers, praised the resort’s involvement, “the session was incredibly engaging and gave our students a well-rounded introduction to the hospitality industry. We truly value this kind of partnership.”
Third-form teacher Joey Lounds added, “the scientific calculators were especially appreciated. There’s a real need for them among our students and this was a thoughtful and timely gesture.”
Beaches Turks and Caicos Managing Director James McAnally lauded his team’s efforts, “our industry needs bright young minds like these. As the brand grows, we want to ensure young people from Turks and Caicos are equipped to lead it forward. This is just the beginning.”
This initiative reflects Beaches TCI’s broader mission to invest in education, empower local youth and support the long-term growth of the hospitality sector in the Turks and Caicos Islands.
