The Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force has launched an investigation into the death of a man, shot during what the police is theorizing as a robbery gone bad on Tuesday night, March 15.
The incident took place at an area known as ‘Well”, off South Dock Road on Providenciales.
“The Police Control Room (911) was informed of the incident shortly after 9:00pm on Tuesday 15th March 2022,” a news release from Lauralee Jagroop, the press officer for the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force said.
The news release noted that upon arrival, a police party found the man suffering from what appeared to be bullet wounds. However, he was later pronounced dead on the scene, but medical officials.
At post time, the police did not release the identity of the man. The police did not give reason for theorizing robbery. However, NewslineTCI understands that the man was from Grand Turk, and had come to Providenciales for training for a job that he recently landed. It was his first day on Provo, it is understood, for the father of a young child.
Police Commissioner, Trevor Botting, who visited the scene condemned the attack on the victim, referring to the murder as a tragedy.
“This is another senseless act of violence, and the death of this man is a tragedy for his family and friends, I send my condolences to them from the Force,” he said.
The said there was no justification for the snuffing out of the man’s life, vowing to seek out and nab those responsible.
“The levels of violence can never be justified and those responsible must be found and brought to justice. I would urge anyone who knows anything to tell us or if they prefer use Crimestoppers which is anonymous,” Botting said.
