Authorities in the Turks and Caicos Islands have launched a full investigation into the cause of a fatal small aircraft crash that occurred on Tuesday afternoon, resulting in one death and another individual hospitalized.

According to the Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA), the crash involved a Cessna 210 aircraft, bearing tail number N1110S, which was on approach to Howard Hamilton International Airport (PLS) after departing from North Perry Airport in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The aircraft was carrying two people at the time of the incident.

Emergency services—including airside fire and rescue units, medical response teams, and police—were immediately dispatched to the crash site. A rescue boat supported by Las Brisas, a local restaurant, was also deployed as part of the coordinated response led by the Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority.

Despite the swift action of emergency crews, one of the two occupants succumbed to injuries sustained in the crash. The second occupant was transported to hospital for treatment.

The airport was temporarily closed at 3:14 p.m. to facilitate rescue operations and was safely reopened at 5:19 p.m.

The National Security Council, Civil Aviation Authority, and other relevant agencies are actively investigating the cause of the crash.

In a statement, Hon. Arlington Musgrove, the Minister with responsibility for the TCIAA, expressed condolences:

“Our thoughts remain with the individuals involved in today’s crash and their loved ones.”

The Airports Authority promised that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
