Man in Custody After Firearm and Ammunition Find

A 36-year-old man is in police custody following the recovery of a firearm and ammunition during a domestic-related incident in Providenciales.

According to a media release from the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force, officers attached to the Grace Bay Police Post responded to a report of a disturbance between a man and a woman at a residence along Leeward Highway on March 27.

Upon arrival, officers separated both individuals and made inquiries into the incident. During the interaction, police were alerted to a bag that had been discarded from the residence.

A subsequent search of the bag led to the discovery of a high-powered tactical firearm along with a quantity of ammunition.

The man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and ammunition. Police confirmed that the scene was processed and the weapon secured.

Authorities noted that this marks the fourth firearm seized for the year and the third within Providenciales, highlighting ongoing efforts to remove illegal weapons from the community.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
