North Caicos Hosts Historic JAGS McCartney Road Relay

On Saturday, 20 June 2026, under bright and welcoming skies, Bellefield Landing in North Caicos became the starting point for a remarkable display of national pride and unity, as participants arrived by ferry, boat, car, and bus to take part in the annual Rt. Excellent JAGS McCartney Road Relays.

Generously sponsored by the Commonwealth Games Association, the event drew an impressive turnout of participants and spectators from across the Turks and Caicos Islands.

 Among those present and actively participating were Hon. O.O. Skippings and Hon. Norman Saunders, both former Chief Ministers; Hon. Robert Hall, former Speaker of the House; Mr. Amin McCartney, son of the National Hero; Hon. Arlington Musgrove, Minister of Government and Representative for North and Middle Caicos; the District Commissioners for North and Middle Caicos; representatives of the Commonwealth Games Association; members of the Department of Culture; uniformed groups; a vibrant Ripsaw group; schoolchildren; and even a young participant between the ages of three and four.

Participants travelled the nearly nine-mile route from Bellefield Landing to Horse Stable, walking, running, and in some cases driving, demonstrating endurance, enthusiasm, and a shared commitment to honouring the legacy of the Right Excellent JAGS McCartney.

The event concluded at Horse Stable, where brief remarks were delivered by officials, cultural performances were showcased, and refreshments were served. The day stood as a powerful reminder of the enduring impact of our National Hero and will undoubtedly be remembered as a milestone event in the nation’s calendar.

This historic relay was made possible through the support of key partners and sponsors, including InterCaribbean Airways, Caicos Express Airways, the North and Middle Caicos District Commissioners’ Offices, the Department of Culture, and the Commonwealth Games Association.

Lead organiser and former District Commissioner, Ms. Cynclair Musgrove, expressed immense pride in the success of the event, noting that it fostered a strong sense of national unity. She highlighted that the relay brought families and community members together in a meaningful and interactive way, describing it as “educational, entertaining, and edifying.”
