A 45-year-old male passenger sustained serious head injuries following a single-vehicle crash near the junction of South Dock Road and Chalk Sound Drive on Saturday, May 10.
The incident occurred near the Chalk Sound Police Station.
Preliminary reports from the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force (Traffic Enforcement Unit) indicate that the vehicle, which was travelling southbound, collided with the gate of Sun Oil Ltd. The crash caused major damage to the company’s perimeter fence, a directional road sign, and underground fire hydrant piping.
The injured passenger suffered a cracked skull and was rushed to the Cheshire Hall Medical Centre. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later airlifted out of the country for advanced medical care.
The 32-year-old driver was arrested on suspicion of driving with an alcohol concentration above the legal limit. He remains in police custody. No formal charges have been filed as the investigation continues.
Police urge the public to refrain from impaired driving and to prioritize road safety at all times.
