The officer was subsequently arrested, and a search of his residence was carried out under lawful authority. Police confirmed that additional rounds of ammunition were recovered during the search.
The matter is now under active investigation by the Serious Crime Unit, which is working to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
In its statement, the RT&CIPF emphasised that all officers are expected to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, accountability, and legal compliance.
“Any breach, whether administrative or criminal, will be addressed in a fair, proportionate, and lawful manner,” the statement said.
