Commissioner of Police Trevor Botting announces the official appointment of Rodney Adams to the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force. His appointment took effect on April 1st, 2021.
Deputy Commissioner Adams who has been Acting in the role was officially sworn in by His Excellency, Governor Nigel Dakin on Friday, May 28th, 2021.
Commenting on the swearing-in, Commissioner of Police Trevor Botting said, “Deputy Commissioner Adams possesses a wealth of experience, a strategic focus and a fierce work ethic. It has been a pleasure to closely work with him over the last two years as my Deputy. Although acting in the role, I have seen first-hand his dedication and hard work to the police service. I look forward to the continued impact Deputy Commissioner Adams will make on law enforcement in the future.”
Deputy Commissioner Adams joined the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force on March 5th, 1984. While serving for over three decades, Deputy Adams ascended steadily through the ranks. He has served as an Executive Manager for over thirteen years and has on many occasions served as Acting Deputy Commissioner and Acting Commissioner of Police and has demonstrated his ability to lead the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force during challenging times.
Moreover, he is skilled at developing progressive crime reduction strategies. He was instrumental in the creation of phase one of the Closed Circuit Television(CCTV) Business case in 2015 that has led to the introduction of CCTV technology to the Turks and Caicos Islands in 2018.
Deputy Commissioner Adams said it is a privilege to officially accept the position. “I am honoured to have been sworn in as the sixth local Deputy Commissioner of Police of the Royal Turks and Caicos Islands Police Force. I pause to thank God for his grace, mercies and direction because I owe it all to him. I also thank my family for their support over the years," he said.
Deputy Commissioner Adams added, "Although there were many challenges, I remained focused and will continue to do so as I seek to become the next leader of this great organization. I have over the years, encouraged and promoted new concepts into policing that will assist in meeting 21st-century policing demands and I am impressed by the level of dedication and commitment made by officers in this regard. It would be remiss of me not to thank the past Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners that I have served under and those who have inspired me. I must also mention the late Superintendent Michael Taylor and retired Superintendent Vernon Alco Williams. With that said, I will continue to play my part, working together with members of the Force Executive Team and making a positive contribution to maintain safer communities for all of us here in the Turks and Caicos Islands."
Deputy Adams holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Criminal Justice and Police Management from Leicester University. Additionally, he has a level seven Executive Diploma in Executive Strategic Management from the Chartered Management Institute United Kingdom, where he is a Chartered Manager fellow.
