South Caicos to Host Second Annual Seniors' Retreat in Celebration of the International Day of Older Persons
The Ministry of Health and Human Services, through its Aged Care and Rehabilitation Department, is pleased to announce the Second Annual Seniors' Retreat commemorating the International Day of Older Persons.

While this marks the department's second retreat for the Turks and Caicos Islands, it is the first time the event will be held on the island of South Caicos, taking place from October 29th – 31st, 2026.
This year’s theme, “The Age of Longevity: Rethinking Systems for Longer Lives,” will guide a series of engaging activities, panel discussions and wellness sessions focused on honouring the invaluable contributions of older adults while exploring innovative approaches to healthcare, social support, and community inclusion for an aging population.
The event will culminate with a prestigious Gala Dinner, during which the department will pay special tribute to the senior citizens of South Caicos aged 90 years and over. These esteemed elders will be celebrated for their remarkable longevity, resilience and the legacy they have built for future generations.
The Minister of Health and Human Services, Hon. Kyle Knowles, expressed pride in the initiative, stating: “Our seniors are the pillars of our communities and it is our duty to ensure they are not only cared for but also celebrated. Bringing this retreat to South Caicos for the first time reflects our commitment to reaching every community across our islands.
Honouring our 90-plus-year-old residents at the Gala Dinner is a deeply meaningful way to close this event recognizing that their stories and wisdom are the foundation upon which we are building our future.”
Director of Aged Care, Ms. Betty-Ann Been stated that, “The Seniors’ Retreat promises a meaningful blend of celebration, education, wellness and intergenerational connection, reinforcing the Turks and Caicos Islands' dedication to uplifting its older population across all islands.”
