TCI Given All Clear for Flights, Business after Hurricane Erin Threat

ree

The Turks and Caicos Islands have been given the all clear for resumption flights and reopening of businesses following the passage of Hurricane Erin.

According to the Department of Disaster Management and Emergencies (DDME), adverse weather conditions have subsided across all islands, though the country remains under a Tropical Storm Warning pending final clearance from the Bahamas MET Office. Response teams are carrying out initial assessments to determine the extent of localized flooding and any damage to critical infrastructure.

Cloudy skies and gusty winds are expected to persist throughout the day, with scattered showers possible. Mariners have been strongly advised to delay any marine activity until later this week due to ongoing rough seas and swells.

A shelter-in-place advisory remains in effect for Grand Turk, South Caicos, and Salt Cay, where residents are being urged to limit non-essential movement. However, the advisory has been lifted for Providenciales, North Caicos, and Middle Caicos, where businesses are encouraged to return to normal working hours.

The Turks and Caicos Islands Airports Authority (TCIAA) has also confirmed that all airports are now fully operational as of August 19th, providing reassurance to travelers and the tourism industry.

Authorities are reminding residents to avoid walking or driving in floodwaters and to remain vigilant as clean-up and recovery efforts continue.

For official updates, the public is encouraged to monitor the DDME Alert App, the Turks and Caicos National Weather Service, and Radio Turks and Caicos (89.1 FM).
