TCICC President Dr. Candice Williams Appointed  ACHEA’s 2nd Vice President

President of the Turks and Caicos Islands Community College (TCICC) Dr. Candice Williams has been appointed 2nd Vice President of the Association of Caribbean Higher Education Administrators (ACHEA) at its 21st annual gathering at the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa in Barbados.

 

The event which ran from Thursday, July 11 to Saturday, July 13, 2024, saw other members from the TCICC playing roles. A release from the TCICC stated that Dr. Williams’ appointment highlights her commitment and contributions to higher education in the Caribbean.


 Marvette Facey-Thompson was appointed as President, Helen Williams-Cumberbatch as 1st Vice-President, and several other key positions including Chair for the Barbados Chapter, PRO, Treasurer, and their respective assistants. The new executive will serve until 2026.


This year's conference, themed "Future-proofing the Higher Education Ecosystem: The Administrators' Perspective," brought together respected persons in academia from across the region.


The TCICC delegation, which included President, Dr. Candice Williams, Vice President of Administration and Operations, Dr. Shaun McKay, and Student Support Officer, Ms. Rachel Harvey, actively participated in various sessions, contributing valuable insights and engaging in meaningful discussions.


On the opening day, Dr. McKay moderated a compelling panel discussion titled "Balancing Productivity and Well-being: The Case for a 4-Day Workweek" at the Hugh Wooding Law School. His adept moderation facilitated a lively and informative exchange among the panellists, exploring the potential benefits and challenges of adopting a shortened workweek in academic institutions.


In separate session, Ms. Harvey moderated a discussion on "Strategic Workforce Planning: Insights from a Jamaican Academic Library." The presentation focused on innovative strategies employed in higher education workforce planning based on Jamaican practices, offering practical insights to conference attendees.


The sessions were engaging and thought-provoking, sparking vibrant discussions and fostering a collaborative atmosphere among participants. The event's schedule featured a balance of activities, ranging from insightful panel discussions to an island tour, providing attendees with both professional enrichment and cultural experiences.


Founded in 2003, ACHEA is dedicated to advancing higher education administration in the Caribbean through professional development, networking opportunities, and the promotion of best practices in the sector. The annual conference serves as a pivotal platform for sharing knowledge, addressing challenges, and exploring future trends in higher education.


The participation of TCICC’s delegation at this year's conference demonstrates the college's dedication to academic excellence and its proactive role in shaping the future of higher education in the Turks and

Caicos Islands and by extension the region. Dr. Candice Williams’ new role as 2nd Vice President of ACHEA further enhances TCICC’s influence and commitment to educational advancement in the Caribbean.
