United Way Turks and Caicos Launches Mobile Library Fundraising Campaign

United Way Turks and Caicos has launched a fundraising campaign to support the creation of a Mobile Library Initiative aimed at expanding access to books and literacy resources for children and families across the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The mobile library will travel to schools and communities throughout the islands, providing books, educational materials, and literacy programs designed to encourage reading and support early learning.

“Literacy is a cornerstone of opportunity,” said Claudine Ewing, CEO of United Way Turks and Caicos. “Through this mobile library, we hope to bring books and learning resources directly to communities and inspire a lifelong love of reading among our young people.”

United Way Turks and Caicos is working in partnership with local businesses, community organizations, and philanthropic supporters to bring the project to life.

“We are proud to support this project because access to education helps build stronger communities,” said Lead Sponsors Adam and Donna Schechter of the Schechter Family Foundation.

Funds raised through the campaign will support the purchase and outfitting of a specially designed mobile unit equipped with books, tablets, and learning materials. The program will also feature storytelling sessions, reading workshops, and community literacy events led by volunteers and educators.

Minister of Education, Hon. Rachel Taylor, welcomed the initiative and encouraged the community to support the effort.

“Literacy is the foundation of any nation,” said the Minister. “I love United Way programs because they create opportunities for children to discover the joy of reading while building critical skills for their future.” She also pledged the Ministry’s support for the initiative.

During the campaign launch, organizers announced that 70% of the fundraising goal has already been achieved. United Way Turks and Caicos is encouraging individuals, businesses, and organizations to support the campaign through donations, sponsorships, and volunteer participation. The organization hopes to officially launch the mobile library by December 3, 2026.

“By working together, we can bring literacy and learning directly to our schools and communities and empower the next generation,” added Rex Messam, Vice Chairman of United Way Turks and Caicos.
