Khalid Hamid has been appointed as the Turks and Caicos Islands’ new Auditor General following what the Governor’s Office has described as a rigorous and highly competitive recruitment

process.
The appointment was announced by Her Excellency the Governor, Dileeni Daniel-Selvaratnam, after consultation with the Hon. Premier and the Hon. Leader of the Opposition.
Mr Hamid brings more than 30 years of international public-sector audit experience, having held senior leadership positions in the United Kingdom, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates. His extensive career spans audit-standard setting, institutional strengthening and capacity-development initiatives across the global supreme-audit community.
He previously chaired the Financial Audit and Accounting Subcommittee of the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) and currently serves on the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) Professional Accountancy Organization Development and Advisory Group. For the past five years, Mr Hamid has served as International Director at the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA), where he has promoted world-class public financial-management practices.
In announcing the appointment, Governor Daniel-Selvaratnam said Mr Hamid emerged as the strongest candidate from a robust and competitive selection process.
“His depth of experience, expertise and proven commitment to raising professional standards will play a vital role in strengthening financial stewardship across the public sector,” the Governor said. “I look forward to the impact of his leadership as we continue to reinforce sound governance throughout the Turks and Caicos Islands.”
In accepting the appointment, Mr Hamid said he was honoured by the confidence placed in him and committed to building on the work already underway.
“I am honoured to be appointed as Auditor General of the Turks and Caicos Islands,” he said. “My focus will be on strengthening audit quality, building capacity within the National Audit Office and supporting improved governance and accountability from the outset.”
