The Youth HELP Foundation, in collaboration with the Hamilton Education Community Foundation (HECF), has donated laboratory equipment and supplies to Helena J. Robinson High School to strengthen practical science teaching and learning.

The donation holds special significance for foundation co-founder Dr. Rufus Ewing, who attended the school and subsequently served as its laboratory technician after completing high school.

Dr. Ewing and his wife, Dr. Dawn Perry-Ewing, co-founders of both foundations, presented the equipment to Principal Mr. Williams, science teacher Mr. Caesar, and students. The presentation was supported by the Minister of Education, Hon. Rachel Taylor, the Permanent Secretary of Education, and the Deputy Permanent Secretary.

The donation included:

  • One 85-inch electronic smart board;

  • Five compound microscopes and one demonstration microscope; and

  • Twenty anatomical dissection sets and trays.

These resources will support interactive instruction and practical laboratory activities, giving students more opportunities to explore science through observation, experimentation, and hands-on learning.

The Youth HELP Foundation, a United States-based nonprofit organisation, and HECF, a registered charitable foundation in the Turks and Caicos Islands, share a mandate to empower young people through literacy and science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programmes.

Speaking at the presentation, Dr. Ewing affirmed the foundations’ intention to strengthen STEM programmes and support science laboratory development at Helena J. Robinson High School and across all high schools in the Turks and Caicos Islands.

The donation reflects that commitment and the founders’ belief in expanding educational opportunities for young people. For Dr. Ewing, it also represents a meaningful opportunity to give back to the school where his own journey in science began.
